Abstract:Objective To analyze the efficacy of rosuvastatin and atorvastatin in treatment of depression in elderly patients with coronary atherosclerotic heart disease (CHD).Methods Totally 60 elderly patients with CHD and depressive symtom [Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) ≥ 50 scores] from January 2015 to January 2016 in Linyi Central Hospital of Shandong Province were randomly divided into rosuvastatin group and atorvastatin group, with 30 cases in each group. Both groups had routine medication and flupentixol/melitracen;the rosuvastatin group took rosuvastatin 10 mg/d;the atorvastatin group took atorvastatin 40 mg/d.SDS was used to evaluate depressive symptoms in patients before treatment and after 4 week of treatment.Plasma levels of low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C),high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C),interleukin-17 (IL-17) and alanine aminotransferase were detected.Adverse reactions were recorded during 4 weeks of treatment. Results The SDS score had no significant difference between groups before treatment (P > 0.05).After 4 weeks of treatment,SDS scores significantly decreased compared to those before treatment [atorvastatin group:(45.1 ± 1.5) scores vs (53.9 ± 2.2) scores, rosuvastatin group:(41.4 ± 1.4) scores vs (54.5 ± 2.1) scores] (P < 0.05);the SDS score in rosuvastatin group was significantly lower than that in atorvastatin group(P < 0.05).Plasma levels of LDL-C,HDL-C and IL-17 had no significant differences between groups before treatment (P > 0.05).After 4 weeks of treatment,LDL-C and IL-17 significantly decreased and HDL-C increased compared to those before treatment [atorvastatingroup:(2.28 ±0.29)mmol/L vs (3.93 ± 0.49) mmol/L,(77 ±6)ng/L vs (95 ±6)ng/L,(1.29 ±0.12) mmol/L vs (1.00 ± 0.15) mmol/L;rosuvastatin group:(2.07 ± 0.19) mmol/L vs (3.96 ±0.56) mmol/L,(73 ±9)ng/L vs (95 ±6)ng/L,(1.51 ± 0.14) mmol/L vs (0.99 ±0.17)mmol/L] (P<0.05);LDL-C and IL-17 in rosuvastatin group were significantly lower and HDL-C was higher than those in atorvastatin group (P < 0.05).Incidences of myalgia and liver function damage in rosuvastatin group were significantly lower than those in atorvastatin group[3.3% (1/30) vs 10.0% (3/30),3.3% (1/30) vs 13.3%(4/30)] (P < 0.05).Conclusion Rosuvastatin is more safe and effective in improving depressive symptoms than atorvastatin in elderly CHD patients.
