Effect of Maixuekang capsule on secondary prevention of ischemic stroke

Abstract：Objective To explore the effect of Maixuekang capsule on the secondary prevention of ischemic stroke.Methods Totally 248 patients with ischemic stroke were enrolled from January 2013 to March 2015 in No.2 Hospital Xiamen.The patients were randomly divided into observation group and control group,with 124 cases in each group.Both groups had aspirin and atorvastatin calcium;the observation group had Maixuekang capsule 2 grain/time,3 times/d for 12 months.Levels of total cholesterol(TC),triacylglycerol(TG),low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and fibrinogen were tested.Incidences of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events and adverse reactions were recorded.Results The incidence of cerebral hemorrhage showed no significant difference between observation group (120 cases) and control group (121 cases) during 12 months of treatment(P ＞ 0.05);the incidence of ischemic stroke in observation group was significantly lower than that in control group[2.5％ (3/120) vs 9.1％ (11/121),x2 =4.763,P =0.029].Serum levels of TC,TG,LDL-C,HDL-C and fibrinogen showed no significant differences between groups before treatment(P ＞ 0.05);TC,LDL-C and fibrinogen levels in observation group were significantly lower and the HDL-C level was significantly higher than those in control group after 12 months of treatment [(3.4 ± 0.6) mmol/L vs (3.8 ± 0.8) mmol/L,(2.1 ± 0.6) mmol/L vs (2.2 ± 0.6) mmol/L,(1.46 ± 0.42) mmol/L vs (1.23 ± 0.25) mmol/L] (P ＜ 0.01).Before treatment,there was no statistic difference of fibrinogen between the two groups(P ＞ 0.05).The levels of fibrinogen decreased significantly in observation group compared with control group[(2.4 ± 1.0)g/L vs (3.8 ± 1.0)g/L] after 12 months treatment,and the difference showed statistical significance(P ＜ 0.01).The adverse reaction incidences showed no significant difference between groups (P ＞ 0.05).Conclusion Maixuekang capsule can regulate blood lipid,lower fibrinogen level and reduce the recurrence rate of ischemic stroke.
