Correlation between serum uric acid level and hypertension with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome

Abstract：Objective To analyze the correlation between serum uric acid level and hypertension with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome(OSAS).Methods Totally 212 patients with polysomnography from October 2013 to November 2014 in Beijing Anzhen Hospital,Capital Medical University were enrolled.The patients were divided into control group(without OSAS,120 cases)and OSAS group(92 cases).Blood uric acid level,systolic blood pressure,diastolic blood pressure,apnea-hypopnea index(AHI) and the lowest blood oxygen saturation (LSaO2) were detected.The correlation among serum uric acid level,systolic blood pressure and OSAS was analyzed.Results The serum uric acid level,systolic blood pressure,diastolic blood pressure and AHI in OSAS group were significantly higher than those in control group[(431 ±40) μmol/L vs (416 ± 34) μmol/L,(136±14)mmHg(1 mmHg =0.133 kPa) vs (125 ± 11)mmHg,(80 ±8)mmHg vs (76 ±8)mmHg,(20.7 ± 3.2) vs (1.5 ± 0.5)] (P ＜ 0.05).AHI in hyperuricemia patients was significantly higher than that in patients with normal uric acid in both control group and OSAS group[(1.8 ±0.2) vs (1.4 ±0.3),(21 ±4) vs (20 ±4)] (P ＜0.05);LSaO2 in hyperuricemia patients was significantly lower than that in patients with normal uric acid[(94 ± 4) ％ vs (95 ± 4) ％,(86 ± 5) ％ vs (88 ± 5) ％] (P ＜ 0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed serum uric acid level was correlated with systolic blood pressure [odds ratio (OR) =1.262,95％ confidence interval(CI):1.137-1.625,P ＜ 0.05],AHI (OR =1.135,95％ CI:1.051-1.140,P ＜ 0.05) and LSaO2 (OR =1.012,95％ CI:1.102-1.153,P ＜ 0.05).Conclusions Serum uric acid level is correlated with hypertension and OSAS.
