Abstract:Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of catheter ablation for coronary heart disease with atrial fibrillation (AF) in elderly patients. Methods Totally 188 patients with atrial fibrillation who had catheter ablation treatment were consecutively enrolled in Xuanwu Hospital,Capital Medical University from November 2009 to February 2015;54 patients had coronary atherosclerotic heart disease(CHD).Clinical general data, efficacy and safety were analyzed. Results History of AF in CHD patients was longer than that in non-CHD patients, left ventricular end diastolic dimension in CHD patients was longer than that in non-CHD patients, left ventricular ejection fraction in CHD patients was lower than that in non-CHD patients;the differences were significant(P < 0.05).During the follow-up of (12 ± 5)months,48 cases (25.5%) had relapse of AF,17 cases (31.5%) in CHD patients and 31 cases(23.1%) in non-CHD patients, the rate of AF relapse had no significant difference between CHD and non-CHD patients (P =0.24).Complications occurred to 19 patients during and after operation;the rate of complications in CHD patients was significantly higher than that in non-CHD patients [18.5% (10/54) vs 6.7% (9/134)] (P =0.01);the rate of severe complications had no significant differences between them. Conclusion Catheter ablation can be used in treating CHD with atrial fibrillation in elderly patients when antiarrhythmic drugs are ineffective or intolerable.
