Influence factors of long-term prognosis of epilepsy in children
Abstract:Objective To investigate influence factors of long-term prognosis in children with epilepsy. Methods Totally 300 epilepsy children who were followed up more than 1 year from April 2011 to April 2015 in Dongfeng Hospital Affiliated to Hubei University of Medicine were enrolled.Sex and onset age were analyzed among patients with different epileptic attack control conditions.Recurrence rate was analyzed among cases of different epilepsy syndrome types and different pathogenies. Results In 300 patients,160 cases were completely controlled,70 cases were effectively controlled and 70 cases had no improvement.Sex composition showed no significant difference(P > 0.05).Onset age had no significant difference between completely controlled patients [(4.2 ± 1.2) years] and effectively controlled patients [(4.1 ± 1.3) years] (P > 0.05);onset age of patients who had no improvement was (2.0 ± 1.0) years, which was significantly lower than those of completely controlled patients and effectively controlled patients(P < 0.05).Recurrence rate had no significant differences among different epilepsy syndrome types.According to the pathogeny of epilepsy, there were 110 cases of idiopathic epilepsy and 190 cases of non-idiopathic epilepsy;recurrence rate of idiopathic epilepsy was significantly lower than that of non-idiopathic epilepsy[31.8% (35/110) vs 55.3% (105/190)] (P < 0.05).Conclusion Long-term prognosis of epilepsy in children is associated with onset age, epilepy syndrome types and pathogeny of epilepsy.
