Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of bladder filling on the accuracy of radiotherapy in patients with rectal cancer. Methods Totally 97 cases of rectal cancer from October 2012 to July 2014 in Peking University Cancer Hospital were enrolled. All patients were treated with neoadjuvant radiotherapy(linear accelerator) and chemotherapy. The radiotherapy was performed after drinking 300 nd water and holding urine for 40 min;the cone-beam CT was used to measure the degree of bladder filling and bony landmarks. The effect of bladder filling on the accuracy of radiotherapy was analyzed with cone-beam CT and planning CT images. Results Totally 381 times of scanning were performed,in the measuring of bladder filling,cone-beam CT showed no error in 55 times(14.4%) compared to planning CT,error absolute values were ≤0.50 cm3(including error-free) in 367 times(96.3%),and errors were out of allowed limits in 14 times (3.7%);in the measuring of bony landmarks,cone-beam CT showed no error in 72 times(18.9%) compared to planning CT,error absolute values were ≤0.50 cm in 368 times (96.6%).Conclusion In the treatment of radiotherapy on rectal cancer with linear accelerator, filling bladder and holding urine can improve the accuracy of radiotherapy.
