Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE)combined with ultrasonic intervention in treating liver cell cancer complicated with portal vein tumor thrombus. Methods Totally 40 patients with liver cell cancer complicated with portal vein tumor thrombus from January 2013 to December 2014 were randomly divided into control group and observation group (20 cases in each group). Both groups were given TACE for 2-4 times, observation group was then given ethanol ablation of tumor thrombus guided by ultrasound for 3-4 times. The level of alphafetoprotein (AFP) was measured before and after operation. The total effective rate,1,2 and 3 years survival rate, incidence of adverse reactions were compared between groups. Results Before operation, the AFP level was not significantly different between observation group and control group [(408 ± 24) μg/L vs (405 ± 24) μg/L] (P > 0.05),which were both reduced after operation [(141 ± 60),(187 ± 80)μg/L],and was more lower in observation group (P < 0.05).The total effective rate and 1,2,3 years survival rate in observation group were significantly higher than those in control group [90.0% (18/20) vs 50.0 (10/20),95.0% (19/20)vs 65.0% (13/20),70.0% (14/20)vs 35.0% (7/20),40.0% (8/20)vs 20.0% (4/20)] (P < 0.05).The incidences of fever and liver function damage in observation group were significantly lower than those in control group (P < 0.05).Conclusion TACE combined with ultrasonic intervention is more effective than single TACE in treating liver cell cancer complicated with portal vein tumor thrombus.
