Abstract:Objective To analyze the correlation between plasma renin activity and blood pressure variability in patients with essential hypertension (EH).Methods Totally 706 cases of essential hypertension from June 2012 to November 2013 in Beijing Anzhen Hospital,Capital Medical University were divided into 3 groups according to plasma renin activity:low renin group(173 cases),middle reniu group(311 cases) and high renin group(222 cases).Clinical data and plasma renin activity were analyzed. Results In high renin group, the constituent ratio of male,24 h diastolic blood pressure variation coefficient, low density lipoprotein cholesterol, serum sodium, serum potassium and plasma renin activity were all significantly higher than those in low renin group[61.3%(136/222) vs45.7%(79/173),(11.4±4.2) vs (10.1 ±4.3),(3.1 ±0.9)mmol/L vs (2.8 ±0.8)mmol/L,(138± 19)mmol/L vs (128 ±42)mmol/L,(4.2 ±0.7)mmol/L vs (3.8 ± 1.2)mmol/L,5.44(3.30,8.99) μg/(L · h) vs 0.09 (0.04,0.14) μg/(L · h)] (all P < 0.05);mean age and the percentage of patients over 60 years were significantly lower than those in low renin group [(49 ± 16)years vs (56 ± 14)years,27.0% (60/222) vs 37.0% (64/173)] (P < 0.05).Plasma renin activity was negatively correlated with age, course of hypertension and serum sodium level(r =-0.214,r =-0.099,r =-0.187,all P < 0.05);plasma renin activity was positively correlated with low density lipoprotein cholesterol and 24 h diastolic blood pressure variation coefficient(r =0.117,r =0.125,P < 0.05).Conclusion In patients with EH,plasma renin activity is positively correlated to 24 h diastolic blood pressure variation coefficient.
