Value comparison of frequency-domain optical coherence tomography and intravascular ultrasound in percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with unprotected left main coronary artery disease
Abstract:Objective To compare the value of frequency-domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) and intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with unprotected left main (ULM) disease. Methods Sixty patients who underwent PCI for ULM disease from April 2012 to December 2013 were retrospectively enrolled in this study. The patients were divided into IVUS-group (29 cases) and OCT-group (31 cases) according to the imaging method during PCI procedure. The angiographic and interventional results,12-month major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) including mortality, myocardial infarction and revascularization of target lesion were compared between groups. Results The dose of contrast agent, time of post-dilation and malapposition rate in OCT group were significantly higher than those in IVUS group [(187 ± 29)ml vs (155 ±20)ml,(3.5±0.3) times vs (2.3±0.6)times,77.4% (24/31) vs 51.7% (15/29)] (all P<0.01).After 12-month follow-up,the incidences of MACEs including mortality, myocardial infarction and revascularization of target lesion were not significantly different between groups (all P > 0.05).Conclusion Compared with IVUS,OCT is found with more malappositions and post-dilation times, but does not improve the prognosis.
