Abstract:Objective To evaluate the short-term effect of nimotuzumab combined with synchronal radio-chemotherapy in treating locally advanced esophageal carcinoma. Methods Ninty-eight patients with locally advanced esophageal cancer from January 2012 to January 2013 were enrolled and divided into intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) group (29 cases),synchronal radio-chemotherapy group (44 cases) and nimotuzumab combined with synchronal radio-chemotherapy group (combination group,25 cases). The short-term effect and adverse reactions were observed and compared among groups. Results The total effective rate and 1 year survival rate in IMRT group, synchronal radio-chemotherapy group and combination group were significantly different [69.0% (20/29) vs81.8% (36/44) vs 92.0% (23/25),44.8% (13/29) vs 61.4% (27/44) vs 76.0% (19/25)] (P < 0.05).The incidences of radioactive pneumonia, radioactive esophagitis, and 0-2 grade hematology toxicity were not significantly different (P >0.05).The incidence of 3-4 grade hematology toxicity in synchronal radio-chemotherapy group and combination group was significantly higher than that in IMRT group [36.4% (16/44),48.0% (12/25) vs 27.6% (8/29)] (P < 0.05),while no significant difference was found between synchronal radio-chemotherapy group and combination group (P > 0.05).In combination group,5 cases had nausea,3 cases had rashes,2 cases had fever and 1 case had blood pressure drop, the adverse reactions were mild and did not impact the therapy. Conclusion Nimotuzumab combined with synchronal radio-chemotherapy has good effect in treating locally advanced esophageal carcinoma, patients with well tolerance.
