Abstract:Objective To explore the recent clinical effect of thalidomide combined with chemotherapy in treating small-cell lung cancer. Methods Fifty patients with extensive small-cell lung cancer from March 2013 to March 2015 were randomly divided into observation group (25 cases) and control group (25 cases).Control group received conventional EP (etoposide + nedaplatin) chemotherapy, observation group was given thalidomide (50 mg,1 time/d) combined with EP chemotherapy;a cycle was 28 days. After 2 cycles of treatment, the levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in plasma were measured and compared between groups;the clinical effects and adverse reactions were compared between groups. Results The VEGF level in plasma before treatment was not significantly different between groups (P > 0.05);the VEGF level in plasma in observation group was significantly lower than that in control group after treatment [(219 ± 10) ng/L vs (296 ± 16) ng/L] (P <0.05).The effective rate [76.0% (19/25)] in observation group was significantly higher than that in control group [72.0% (18/25)] (P > 0.05).The incidence of myelosuppression was not significantly different between groups (P > 0.05),the incidence of nausea and vomitting in observation group was significantly lower than that in control group [56.0% (14/25) vs 84.0% (21/25)] (P <0.05).Conclusion Thalidomide combined with EP chemotherapy can reduce the VEGF level in plasma, improve the clinical effective rate and reduce the incidence of nausea and vomiting in patients with extensive small-cell lung cancer.
