Effect of astragalus injection combined with atorvastatin in treating early diabetic nephropathy

Abstract：Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of astragalus injection combined with atorvastatin in treating early diabetic nephropathy.Methods Forty patients with early diabetic nephropathy from June 2014 to April 2015 were randomly divided into control group and observation group,each group 20 cases.Control group received conventional treatment such as oral hypoglycemic drugs,diet control,and so on;observation group was given intravenous infusion of astragalus injection (40 ml added into 250 ml 0.9％ sodium chloride,1 time/d) combined with oral administration of atorvastatin (20 mg every night) on the basis of conventional treatment.The treatment was lasted for 4 weeks.The glycemic index including fasting plasma glucose (FPG),2 h postprandial glucose (2 h PG),haemoglobin Alc (HbAlc),the lipids including triglycerides (TG),total cholesterol (TC),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C),high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C),the renal function including urinary albumin excretion rate (UAER),serum creatinine (Scr),urinary β2 microglobulin (β2-MG) before and after treatment were measured and compared between the two groups.Results After treatment,the FPG,2 h PG,HbAlc,TG,TC,LDL-C,UAER,Scr,β2-MG in observation group were significantly lower than those in control group [(4.6±0.8) mmol/L vs (6.1 ±0.9) mmol/L,(5.5 ± 1.2) mmol/L vs (7.1 ± 1.3) mmol/L,(6.3 ± 0.9) ％ vs (7.9 ± 0.9) ％,(1.85 ± 0.29) mmol/L vs (2.24 ± 0.32) mmol/L,(4.6 ± 0.3) mmo]/L vs (5.4 ± 0.4) mmol/L,(2.05 ± 0.15) mmol/L vs (2.78 ± 0.38) mmol/L,(69 ± 12) μg/min vs (90 ± 12) μg/min,(76 ± 6) μmol/L vs (81 ± 7) μmol/L,(0.23 ± 0.03) μg/L vs (0.31 ± 0.04) μg/L] (P ＜0.05),while the HDL-C in observation group was significantly higher than that in control group [(3.19 ± 0.22) mmol/L vs (2.31 ±0.26) mmol/L] (P ＜0.05).Conclusion Astragalus injection combined with atorvastatin can reduce the levels of blood glucose and lipid as well as improve the kidney function in patients with early diabetic nephropathy.
