Abstract:Objective To investigate the correlation of serum dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S) and coronary artery disease (CAD) in postmenopausal women. Methods Totally 110 postmenopausal female patients from June 2012 to December 2013 were enrolled, including 54 cases with CAD (CAD group) and 56 cases with CAD and diabetes (CAD-M group);52 healthy postmenopausal women were choosen as control group. The CAD patients were divided into single vessel disease group (36 cases),double vessel disease group (40 cases) and multi-vessel disease group (34 cases). The serum DHEA-S level, fasting blood glucose and blood lipid were compared among groups. Results The serum DHEA-S level in CAD group was significantly higher than that in CAD-M group [(3.2 ± 1.4) μmol/L vs (2.8 ± 1.2) μmol/L],but was significantly lower than that in control group [(5.3 ± 2.2) μmol/L] (P < 0.05).In control group, single vessel disease group, double vessel disease and multi-vessel disease, the serum DHEA-S level was (5.3 ± 2.2),(3.3 ± 1.5),(3.1 ± 1.4),(2.8 ± 1.3) μmol/L,respectively,that was control group > single vessel disease group > double vessel disease group > multi-vessel disease (P < 0.05).Conclusion Reduced serum DHEA-S level is related to CAD in postmenopausal women, and it may be used as an indicator for stenosis severity and lesion extent.
