Incidence of early cerebral infarction after transient ischemic attack in patients with intracranial vascular stenosis

Abstract：Objective To explore the incidence of early cerebral infarction after transient ischemic attack (TIA) in patients with intracranial vascular stenosis.Methods Totally 128 patients with TIA from May 2012 to December 2014 were enrolled and underwent CT angiography (CTA) to measure the degree,position and number of intracranial vascular stenosis.Diffusion weighted imaging was used to diagnose cerebral infarction.The incidence of early cerebral infarction after TIA was compared between patients with different vascular stenosis degree,position and number.Results Totally 38 cases had early cerebral infarction after TIA,with incidence of 29.7％.There were 85 cases with intracranial vascular stenosis;the incidence of early cerebral infarction after TIA was increased along with the stenosis degree [normal:4.7％ (2/43),mild stenosis:18.4％ (7/38),moderate stenosis:48.4％ (15/31),severe stenosis:87.5％ (14/16)],with significant differences between groups (P ＜0.05 or P ＜0.01).The incidence of early cerebral infarction in patients with responsible vessels stenosis was significantly higher than that in patients with non-responsible vessels stenosis [53.4％ (31/58) vs 18.5 ％ (5/27)] (P ＜ 0.01).The incidence of early cerebral infarction in patients with proximal arterial stenosis was significantly higher than that in patients with distal arterial stenosis [59.3％ (32/54) vs 12.9％ (4/31)] (P ＜0.01).The incidence of early cerebral infarction in patients with ≥ 3 vessels stenosis was significantly higher than that patients with 1 and 2 vessels stenosis [57.5％ (23/40) vs 27.3％ (6/22),30.4％ (7/23)] (P ＜ 0.05),while was not significantly different between patients with 1 and 2 vessels stenosis (P ＞ 0.05).Conclusion The incidence of early cerebral infarction after TIA is increased along with the stenosis degree and number.
