Abstract:Objective To investigate the level and significance of tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase 1 (TIMP-1) in serum in patients with bronchial dilation. Methods Totally 120 patients with bronchiectasis (observation group) and 120 subjected with normal bronchial from August 2011 to January 2015 were enrolled. The pulmonary function, the levels of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor (TIMP-1) and interleukin (IL)-6 in serum were assessed;the correlations of TIMP-1 with MMPs and IL-6 were analyzed. Results The forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) and ratio of FEV1 and forced vital capacity in percentage (FEV1/FVC%) in observation group were significantly lower than those in control group [(68±10)% vs (98±13)%, (70±6)% vs (85±7)%] (P<0.05).The levels of serum MMP-2, MMP-9 and TIMP-1 in observation group were significantly higher compared with those in control group [(62±11)ng/Lvs (26±11) ng/L, (134 ±25) ng/L vs (45 ±13) ng/L, (44 ±9) ng/L vs (20±9) ng/L] (P < 0.05).The level of serum IL-6 in observation group was significantly higher than that in control group [(41 ± 5) ng/L vs (13 ± 4) ng/L] (P < 0.05).Pearson correlation analysis showed that the expression of TIMP-1 was positively correlated with MMP-2, MMP-9 and IL-6 (r =0.563, r =0.505, r =0.509,P <0.05), was negatively correlated with FEV1 and FEV1/FVC% (r =-0.438, r =-0.225, P < 0.05).Conclusion The TIMP-1 and MMPs are abnormally increased in patients with bronchiectasis, which is related with inflammatory reaction and limited lung function;measure of TIMP-1 is helpful to determine the bronchiectasis condition.
