Abstract:Objective To analyze the clinical value of color Doppler ultrasound in diagnosis of nodular goiter and thyroid adenoma. Methods Clinical data of 48 patients with nodular goiter (nodular goiter group) and 52 patients with thyroid adenoma (thyroid adenoma group) from January 2014 to January 2010 underwent two-dimensional ultrasound and color Doppler flow imaging before surgery. The imaging characteristics and blood flow parameters were compared between two groups. Results The correct diagnosis rate was 92.3% (48/52) for of nodular goiter and 89.6% (43/48) for thyroid adenoma. In two dimensional images, the thyroid size, internal echo and encapsulated nodules situation showed no significant differences between two groups (P > 0.05);the proportion of multiple nodules, nodule size and acroteric halos were significantly different between two groups (F =4.32, 5.83, 5.74, P < 0.05).In color doppler ultrasound, the blood flow type was significantly different between two groups (x2 =14.16, 6.47, 13.71, 15.97, P < 0.05);the systolic peak velocity and resistance index in thyroid adenoma group were significantly higher than those in nodular goiter group [(11.0 ± 0.1) cm/s vs (6.3 ±4.1) cm/s, (0.47 0.08) vs (0.13 ±0.11)] (P <0.05), but the end diastolic minimum velocity was not significantly different between two groups (P > 0.05).Conclusion Two-dimensional ultrasound combined with color Doppler flow ultrasound can differentially diagnose nodular goiter and thyroid adenoma accurately before surgery.
