Application value of phenolphthalein tablet on intestinal preparation before capsule endoscopy examination

Abstract：Objective To explore the application value of phenolphthalein tablet on intestinal preparation before capsule endoscopy.Methods Ninty patients undergoing capsule endoscopy from June 2010 to April 2014 were enrolled and randomly divided into group A,group B and group C (each 30 cases).Complex polyethylene glycol electrolyte powder was given orally once in group A,complex polyethylene glycol electrolyte powder was given orally twice in group B,and complex polyethylene glycol electrolyte powder combined with phenolphthalein tablet was given orally once in group C for intestinal preparation.The intestinal cleanliness and tolerance were compared among the three groups.Results The good rate of intestinal cleanliness in group C was higher than that in group A [96.6％ (29/30) vs 70.0％ (21/30)] (P ＜0.05);the tolerance rate in group C was significantly higher than that in group B [86.7％ (26/30) vs 70.0％ (21/30)] (P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion Using phenolphthalein combined with complex polyethylene glycol electrolyte powder as bowel preparation method in capsule endoscopy can attain high intestinal cleanliness and the tolerance is good.
