Effect of somatostatin on platelet and digestive function in patients with acute pancreatitis

Abstract：Objective To explore the effect of somatostatin on platelet and digestive function in patients with acute pancreatitis.Methods Totally 76 cases with acute pancreatitis from April 2011 to November 2014 were enrolled and randomly divided into control group (38 cases) receiving conventional treatment and observation group (38 cases) treated with somatostatin (0.1 mg,8 h/time,3 times/day) on the basis of conventional therapy.Before and 1 week after treatment,the platelet function parameters including mean platelet volume (MPV),platelet distribution width (PDW) and proportion of platelet with granule membrane protein-140 (GMP-140) and digestion related indicators,including trypsinogen-2 (TPG-2),amylopsin,pancrelipase,were measured and compared between the two groups.Results There were no significantly differences regarding MPV,PDW,GMP-140 positive platelet,TPG-2,amylopsin and pancrelipase between the two groups (P ＞ 0.05).After 1 week of treatment,MPV,PDW,GMP-140 positive platelet,TPG-2,amylopsin and pancrelipase were all significantly decreased in observation group [(10.2±1.0) flvs (13.3 ±1.1) fl,(13.0±1.2) fl vs (16.9 ±1.3) fl,(8.1 ±1.1)％ vs (16.6± 1.7)％,(3.7±0.6) μg/L vs (65.5 ±6.5) μg/L,(69 ±8) U/L vs (498 ±52) U/L,(118 ±15) U/L vs (273 ±32) U/L] and control group [(11.5 ±1.1) fl vs (13.3 ± 1.1) fl,(14.9 ±1.2) fl vs (16.9 ± 1.4) fl,(10.7±1.2) ％ vs (16.6±1.7) ％,(19.8 ±2.5) μg/L vs (65.5 ±6.6) μg/L,(125 ± 11) U/L vs (496 ± 51) U/L,(173 ± 19) U/L vs (273 ± 33) U/L]; significant differences were also found between the two groups after treatment (all P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion Somatostatin can effectively improve the microcirculation and digestive function in patients with acute pancreatitis.
