Abstract:Objective To explore the correlation between pulse wave velocity (PWV) and uric acid in different gender. Methods Eight hundred and four healthy people from January to July 2014 were selected and divided into hyperuricemia group (142 cases) and normal uric acid group (662 cases). The general clinical data were recorded;the blood glucose, creatinine, uric acid, total cholesterol, tricylglycerol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C),low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C),brachical-ankle artery pulse wave velocity (baPWV) and catroid-femoral artery PWV (cfPWV) were measured. The correlations between PWV and uric acid were analyzed. Results No differences of age, sex, rate of hypertension, diabetes mellitus and coronary atherosclerosis, blood glucose, heart rate were found (all P >0.05).The rates of smoke history, alchohol history, body mass index, creatinine, uric acid, total cholesterol,tricylglycerol,LDL-C,systolic pressure, diastolic pressure,baPWV and cfPWV were significantly higher,HDL-C was significantly lower in hyperuricemia group than those in mormal uric acid group [38.0% (54/142) vs 28.1% (186/662),29.6% (42/142) vs 18.0% (119/662),(27 ±4)kg/m2 vs (25 ±3)kg/m2,(77 ± 18) mmol/L vs (69 ± 17) mmol/L,(457 ±60) μmol/L vs (308 ±64) μmol/L,(5.3 ± 1.5) mmol/L vs (4.9 ±0.9) mmol/L,(2.5 ±1.5) mmol/L vs (1.6±1.5) mmol/L,(3.7±0.9) mmol/L vs (2.9±0.8) mmol/L,(136±22) mmHg (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa) vs (126±18) mmHg,(83±12) mmHg vs (79 ±10) mmHg,(12.4 ±2.0) m/s vs (11.9±1.8) m/s,(8.3 ±1.7) m/s vs (7.8 ±1.5) m/s,(1.12 ±0.25) mmol/L vs (1.23 ±0.30) mmol/L].The baPWV,cfPWV and serum uric acid in male were significantly higher than those in female [(375 ±75) μmol/L vs (279 ±65) μmol/L,(12.2 ± 1.5) m/s vs (11.8 ± 2.0) m/s,(8.0 ± 1.3) m/s vs (7.8 ± 1.8) m/s].Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression models revealed that baPWV and cfPWV were positively correlated with serum uric acid in the total subjects and in female (P<0.05).Conclusion The baPWV and cfPWV are positively correlated with the level of serum uric acid in female.
