Abstract:Objective To observe the clinical curative effect of postoperative administration of imatinib in treatment of gastrointestinal stromal tumor after laparoscopic resection. Methods A total of 70 patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumor from January 2008 to May 2010 were selected and randomly divided into control group (35 cases) undergoing laparoscopic resection only and observation group (35 cases) receiving postoperative administration of imatinib (400 mg/time,1 time/d) after laparoscopic resection. The survival and recurrence rate of the two groups were compared and the risk factors were analyzed. Results The 1 and 2 year recurrence free survival rate in observation group were 100.0% (35/35) and 94.3% (33/35),both significantly higher than those in control group [82.9% (29/35) and 62.9% (22/35)].Two cases (5.7%) had recurrence in observation group and 13 cases (37.1%) had recurrence in control group. The significant difference of recurrence free survival rate was found between the two groups (P =0.035).The high risk type, tumor diameter > 10 cm,mitotic index > 5/50 hpf and non-treatment of imatinib after operation were the independence risk factors of prognosis (all P < 0.05).Conclusion Postoperative administration of imatinib after laparoscopic resection can significantly improve prognosis in treatment of gastrointestinal stromal tumor, especial for high-risk patients.
