Abstract:Objective To study the effect of metoprolol on serum leptin in patients with heart failure. Methods Eighty patients with heart failure were randomly divided into metoprolol group(40 cases) and conventional therapy group(40 cases).Meanwhile,40 healthy people were selected as control group.Conventional therapy group was given basic symptomatic treatment, including cardiac, diuretic, vasodilator therapies, while metoprolol group was added metoprolol besides basic treatment. The levels of B-type natriuretic peptide(BNP) and serum leptin were compared in both groups. Results The levels of serum leptin in metoprolol group were significantly higher than in control group[(10.6 ± 1.5) μg/L vs (6.3 ± 1.5) μg/L] and BNP[(573 ± 24) ng/L vs (17 ± 9)ng/L].No significant differences were presented by comparison to the level of serum teptin in patients with different pathogens.According to New York Heart Disease Association(NYHA) classification, the levels of serum leptin and BNP in patients with grade Ⅲ cardiac function were markedly higher than those with grade Ⅱ.6 weeks after treatment, the levels of serum leptin and BNP in metoprolol group were obviously lower than in conventional therapy group;left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) was notably higher than in conventional therapy group [(6.6 ±2.2) μg/L vs (7.8 ±2.7)μg/L,(232 ±21)ng/L vs (270 ±22)ng/L,(53.2 ±0.6)% vs (45.7 ±0.4)%].Conclusion The level of serum leptin significantly increase in patients with heart failure, and metoprolol can effectively decrease the level of serum leptin.
