Serum levels of 25 hydroxy vitamin D3 and total IgE in infants with recurrent wheezing

Abstract：Objective To study the changes and clinical significance of serum levels of 25 hydroxy vitamin D3 [25-(OH)D3] and total IgE and peripheral blood eosinophilia cell percentage (EOS％)in infants with recurrent wheezing.Methods Sixty infants with recurrent wheezing and sixty healthy children were enrolled.Enzyme linked immunosorbentassay was used to detect the levels of serum 25-(OH)D3 and immunoturbidimetry was used to detect the levels of total IgE.Automatic blood cell analyzer was used to detect EOS％ of the two groups.Results Serum 25-(OH) D3 levels decreased significantly in infants with recurrent wheezing group,compared with the normal group [(18 ±6)μg/L vs (38 ±8)μg/L] (t =15.81,P =0.000).In contrast,serum total IgE levels increased significantly in infants with recurrent wheezing group,compared with the normal group [(122 ± 18)IU/ml vs (51 ± 10)IU/ml,(3.02 ± 1.82)％ vs (0.72 ±0.27)％] (t =25.84,P =0.000).EOS％ increased significantly in the infants with recurrent wheezing group compared with the normal group(t =9.73,P =0.000).Serum 25-(OH)D3 levels were negatively correlated with serum total IgE level in the infants with recurrent wheezing group(r =-0.768,P =0.000).There was no correlation between serum 25-(OH) D3 levels and serum total IgE levels in the normal group(r =-0.013,P =0.924).Serum 25-(OH)D3 levels had no correlation with EOS％ in both groups (r =-0.084,P =0.523;r =-0.137,P=0.298).Conclusions Low serum25-(OH)D3 may be the risk factor of recurrent wheezing in infants.Serum 25-(OH)D3 levels are negatively correlated with serum total IgE levels in the infants with recurrent wheezing group; recurrent wheezing in the infants is closely related to allergic reaction.The supplement of vitamin D3 may provide new ideas for clinical prevention of infant recurrent wheezing.
