Fufang Banmao capsules and the maintenance treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer

Abstract：Objective To observe the effects of Fufang Banmao capsules during the maintenance treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).Methods A total of 77 patients with advanced NSCLC after the regular 4-6 cycles of chemotherapy were divided into the observation group (54 cases) and the control group (23 cases).The observation group received maintenance treatment with Fufang Banmao capsules,0.75 g each time,two times per day; control group was given conventional supportive treatment.The short term curative affect,quality of life (QOL),immune state and progression-free survival (PFS) regarding long-term effect evaluation of two the groups after 2 months were evaluated.Results The short term effective rate of the observation group was higher than that of the control group [25.0％ (13/52) vs 15.8％ (3/19)] with a significant difference (P ＜ 0.05).There was a significant difference on PFS between both groups [(6.0 ± 2.4) months vs (4.2 ± 2.1)months] (P ＜ 0.05).There were significant differences of the rate of weight gaining and improving appetite between the two groups after treatment of two months [78.8％ (41/52) vs 15.8％ (3/19),75.0％ (39/52)vs 31.6％ (6/19)] (P ＜0.01).There was also a significant difference in the increase rate of Kamofsky scores between both groups [38.5％ (20/52) vs 15.8％ (3/19)] (P ＜ 0.01).There was a significant difference in NK cell activity of the observation group after treatment of two months[(41 ± 14) vs(31 ± 11)] (P ＜0.05).There was a significant difference on NK cell activity of the observation group after treatment,compared to that of the control group [(41 ± 14) vs (30 ± 11)] (P ＜ 0.05).There were significant differences on CD4,CDs,CD4/CD8 of observation group after treatment,compared to those of the control group [(32.71 ± 0.45) vs (33.24 ± 0.57),(30.25 ±0.48) vs (32.86 ±0.59),(1.08 ±0.12) vs (1.07 ±0.07)] (P＜0.01).Conclusion The QOL and times of PFS of patients with advanced NSCLC may be improved and prolonged by Fufangbanmao capsule with maintenance treatment.
