Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects of intacted protein enteral nutrition powder on senile patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD).Methods The 60 cases were randomly divided into 2 groups:control group and Nutrition group.Oxygen therapy was applied with a balanced diet.Nutrison group was given nutrison 160g daily for 12 weeks. The outcomes were compared according to the St.George's respiratory questionnaire(SGRQ),somatometric measurement,6 minutes walking test and lung function tests. Results After the nutritional support treatment, pationts' general state of health in the nutrition group was obviously better than that in the control group, including body weight, triceps skinfold thickness and serum-albumin [(48.7 ± 1.4)kg vs (48.4 ±2.5)kg,(7.5 ± 1.6)mm vs (6.8 ±2.0)mm,(39 ±5)mg/L vs (36 ±4)mg/L](P < 0.05).Compared to the control group, the scores of SGRQ.somatometric measurement,6 minutes walking distance and lung function tests in nutrition group were also higher[(43.8 ± 2.1)scores vs.(45.0 ± 2.0)scores,(39 ± 7) m vs.(31 ± 7) m,(69 ± 7) % vs (62 ± 6) %] (P < 0.05),but the level of serum immune globulin was not different[IgA (1.9±1.1)g/Lvs.(1.7±0.8)g/L,IgG (10.0±1.9)g/Lvs.(9.1 ±1.5)g/L,IgM (1.2±0.5)g/L vs.(0.9±0.5)g/L] (P>0.05).Conclusion The nutritional state, health status and respiratory function can be improved if senile patients with stable COPD take nutrition therapy.
