Abstract:Objective To investigate the influence of rosuvastatin on serum vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) level and high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) level in patients with acute coronary syndrome(ACS).Methods Totally 30 patients with ACS were enrolled in this study; the patients were hospitalized from January 2012 to June 2013.All patients took orally 20 mg rosuvastatin quaque nocte(qn) after the coronary angiography.3 months and 6 months later, the concentration of serum VEGF was determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method.hs-CRP values was determinated by immune transmission turbidimetric method.Heart function and the occurrence of angina pectoris, acute myocardial infarction and sudden death before and after intensified rosuvastatin treatment were ananlyzed. Results Three months after rosuvastatin, the serum VEGF level of patients with ACS was(75 ± 8) pmol/L vs (34 ± 8) pmol/L (basline). However, the serum VEGF level increased to (140 ± 11) pmol/L 6 months after treatment. The values of hs-CRP before and 3 and 6 months after rosuvastatin treatment were (10.3 ±5.4) mg/L vs (4.4 ± 1.4) mg/L vs (2.1 ± 1.1) mg/L,respectively.Therewere statistically significant differences of the VEGF and the hs-CRP levels (P < 0.01).Heart function Ⅲ was 29 cases before treatment,16 cases after 3 months of treatment; heart function Ⅱ was 24 cases,Ⅰ 6 cases after 6 months of treatment.Angina pectoris occurred in 30 cases before treatment,16 cases after 3 months of treatment;3 cases after 6 months of treatment. Before treatment,12 cases had acute myocardic infarction, did no cases after treatment. Conclusions Intensified rosuvastatin therapy in a time-dependent manner may lead to a significant increase in serum VEGF levels and a decrease in serum hs-CRP levels in patients with ACS.Rosuvastatin may induce angiogenesis of ischemic myocardium by up-regulating serum VEGF levels.
