Abstract:Objective To evaluate the effect of Shuxuening infection on the level of homocysteine (Hcy)and hypersensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) in peripheral blood for the elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and carotid plaque. Methods Forty-two elderly patients were randomly divided into two groups. The observation group was given conventional therapy adding Shuxuening infection, while the control group was given conventional therapy only. After four weeks serum hs-CRP concentrations and homocysteine changes before and after the use of Shuxuening infection were compared. Results The levels of hs-CRP and Hcy in observation group after treatment were significantly lower than before the treatment and control group after treatment [(3.2 ± 1.8) mg/L vs (7.6± 1.0)mg/L,(5.8 ±2.2)mg/L;(9.4 ±3.1) μmol/L vs (17.1 ± 2.6) μmol/L,(14.7 ±3.2) μmol/L] (all P < 0.05).Conclusion Shuxuening infection can decrease the serum concentration of Hcy and hs-CRP parameters in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and carotid plaque.
