Effects of telmisartan on glucose and lipid metabolism disorders in patients with diabetes mellitus and hypertension

Abstract：Objective To discuss effects of telmisartan on glucose and lipid metabolism disorders in patients with diabetes mellitus and hypertension.Methods One hundred and twenty patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension were divided into observation group (60 cases) and control group (60 cases).Observation group was given telmisartan and control group was given nifedipine.Blood pressure,fasting blood glucose (FBG),postpranddial blood sugar (PBG 2 h),glycated hemoglobin (HbA1 c),triglycerides (TG),total cholesterol(TC),low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C),high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C),insulin (FINS),liver and kidney function and electrocardiogram of two groups before and after treatment were observed and compared.Results There were significant differences on systolic blood pressure (SBP) [observation group:(131 ± 7) mmHg; control group:(136 ± 5) mmHg],diastolic blood pressure (DBP) [observation group:(82 ±4) mmHg; control group:(91 ± 6)mmHg] of observation group compared with before treatment [observation group:SBP:(163 ± 11) mmHg,DBP:(102 ± 5) mmHg; control group:SBP:(162 ± 9) mmHg,DBP:(100 ± 3) mmHg](P ＜ 0.05).There were significant differences on SBP,DBP between two group after treatment (P ＜ 0.05).TC [(4.1 ± 0.9) mmol/L],TG [(1.6 ± 0.8) mmol/L],FINS [(15 ± 7) mIU/L] of observation group after treatment were lower than that of before treatment [(5.7 ± 1.7) mmol/L,(3.3 ± 1.4) mmol/L,(21 ± 13) mIU/L] (P ＜ 0.05).There were significant differences on TG,FINS of observation group compared with control group [TG:(3.5 ± 1.4) mmol/L,FINS(22 ± 13) mlU/L] (P ＜ 0.01).The total effective rate of observation group [88.3％ (53/60)] was higher than that of control group [75.0％ (45/60)] (P ＜0.05).Adverse effects rate of observation group [3.3％ (2/60)] was lower than that of control group [15.0％ (9/60)] (P ＜ 0.01).Conclusion Telmisartan in the treatment of diabetes mellitus and hypertension is safe and effective and compliance; it can improve the insulin resistance and lipid metabolism disorder.
