Comparison of three different diagnostic criteria for metabolic syndrome in patients with coronary heart disease
Abstract:Objective To assess the prevalence and the agreement of three different diagnostic criteria of metabolic syndrome (MS) in patients with coronary heart disease(CHD) according to the third report of the national cholesterol educational program expert panel(NCEP-ATP) Ⅲ,Chinese diabetes society(CDS) and international diabetes federation(IDF).Methods Between January 2007 and June 2008,2 356 patients with CHD at Anzhen hospital were evaluated with different definitions of NCEP-ATP Ⅲ,CDS and IDF.The prevalence of MS was calculated by the three criteria and kappa statistics was used to compare the agreement of the three criteria. Results The prevalence rates of MS were 54.0% (1 273/2 356),46.1% (1 086/2 356)and 51.3% (1 208/2 356) based on NCEP-ATP Ⅲ,CDS and IDF diagnostic criteria, respectively. The agreement rates between NCEP-ATP Ⅲ and IDF,NCEP-ATP Ⅲ and CDS,IDF and CDS were 95.60%,77.29% and 78.69%,respectively,and the kappa indices were 0.91,0.55 and 0.57,respectively.Conclusions The prevalence of MS is high in patients with CHD.The diagnostic agreement rates of MS by the three criteria are high.
