A survey on pschiatric inpatients combined with nervous system diseases

Abstract:Objective To study the state of neuropathy comorbidities of patients with mental disorders,and to deplore the characters of neuropathy comorbidities in psychiatric hospital.Methods A consecutive series of 602 patients with mental disorders were surveyed on their neuropathy comorbidities after five days of hospitalization from May to November,2012 in Tianjin Anding hospital.Both mental disorders and nervous system diseases were diagnosed according to the diagnostic criteria from international classification of diseases (ICD)-10.Results The comorbidity of nervous system diseases including cerebral infarction,epilepsy and parkinson's disease,was 12.0% in 602 inpatients,and that of cerebral infarction was 7.5% (45/602),showing the highest level in neuropathy comorbidities.Between the five kinds of mental disorders patients,there were differences of the mean age (F =0.298,P=0.878) and the gender ratio (x2 =34.566,P =0.000).The neuropathy comorbidities were different among the five kinds of mental disorders(x2 =169.7,P =0.000),and that of organic psychosis was 90.3% (28/31),showing the highest level in mental disorders.Conclusions The psychiatric inpatients have a high level of neuropathy comorbidities,especially organic psychosis.The cerebral infarction,epilepsy and parkinson's disease are mostly common in neuropathy comorbidities.There is a close relation among psychosis neuropathy,age and sex characters.
