Effect of intergrative medicine in patients with coronary heart disease combined with depression and anxiety

Abstract:Objective To study the effect of integrative medicine in coronary heart disease(CHD) with depression or anxiety.Methods Totally 104 patients diagnosed CHD were divided into 2 groups.The patients were given conventional treatment of CHD and integrative medicine combined therapy,respectively.All patients were evaluated by Zung Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS),Zung Self-rating Anxiety Scale(SAS) and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale(HRSD) for depression and anxiety in initial visit,second week,fourth week and eighth week of follow up.Results At eighth week of follow up,there were differences in the proportion of two groups of patients with emotional psychological abnormality [SDS 9.6% (5/48) vs 3.8% (2/56) ; SAS 12.5% (6/48) vs 5.8 % (3/56),P < 0.05].The rate of depression and anxiety in integrative medicine combined therapy group decreased significantly.Subgroup analysis showed that the proportion of female patients with depression was higher in conventional treatment group [20.8 % (10/25) vs 8.3 % (4/23),P < 0.05].After eight weeks of treatment,the female symptoms of depression and anxiety in integrative group improved significantly.Bivariate regression analysis revealed that treatment group was associated with the rate of depression and anxiety at eighth week.Conclusion Integrative medicine is effective in patients with CHD with depression or anxiety.
