Effect of Nanxintong treatment on serum homocysteine level in diabetic patients with cerebral infarction

Abstract：Objective To investigate the effect of Naoxintong treatment on serum homocysteine level in diabetic patients with cerebral infarction.Methods Totally fifty-one diabetic patients with cerebral infarction were investigated from June 2009 to December 2011,and 42 healthy persons were as control group.All the patients were given two months' Naoxintong capsule trreatment.Blood glucose and serum homocysteine level were measured at the baseline and after treatment.Results Serum homocysteine level in diabetic patients with cerebral infarction was (25 ±8) μmol/L,the prevalence of hyperhomocysteine was 70.6％ (36/51),which was significantly higher than that of control group [(6 ± 3) μmol/L and 26.2％ (11/42),respectively].After N aoxintong capsule treatment,serum homocysteine level was reduced to(16± 7)μmol/L,P ＜0.01,and total effective rate in cerebral infarction patients was 88.2％ (45/51).Conclusions Serum homocysteine level in diabetic patients with cerebral infarction elevate significantly.Naoxintong capsule have curative effect in cerebral infarction by lowering serum homocysteine level.
