The risk factors of carotid artery stenosis with elderly patients of coronary artery disease

Abstract：Objective To evaluate the relationship and risk factors between coronary artery disease and carotid artery stenosis(CAS) screened by duplex ultrasonography in elderly patients.Methods Seven hundred and seventy-five patients with coronary artery disease were divided into CAS group (128 cases) and non-CAS group (647 cases).The clinical features of the two groups were compared and coronary heart disease risk factors were analyzed by Logistic multiple regression.Results Incidence of carotid artery stenosis was 16.5％ (128/775).Incidence of renal artery stenosis in older age was higher than that of others (P ＜ 0.01).Incidence of CAS in the patients in multi-vessel lesions was higher than that of 1-vessel disease(x2 =11.425,P ＜ 0.01).Incidence of CAS in the patients in left main disease was higher than that of others (x2 =7.88,P ＜ 0.01).By multivariable Logistic regression analysis,age and multi-vessel lesions were independent predictors of CAS,respectively.Conclusions In elderly patients of coronary artery disease,prevalence of CAS is higher in multi-vessel lesions and stenosis of left main stem.Age is an independent predictor of CAS.
