Abstract:Objective To study the significance and the association between plasma brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) level and severity of coronary vessels and the prognosis of patients with coronary artery disease(CAD).Methods The study involved 104 consecutive patients with appearance of unstable angina and candidate for coronary angiography in VIP ward in Anzhen hospital from Jan.2010 to Jan.2011.The patients were grouped according to the severity of coronary artery lesion. The left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF) and the occurrence of cardiovascular events in a year and the plasma BNP levels of different groups were studied. Results ① In terms of plasma BNP levels, the single-vessel,the double and the three-vessel disease group were (80 ± 13)ng/L,(110 ±13)ng/L,(140 ± 18) ng/L,the different had significant between groups(P < 0.05) ; In terms of plasma BNP levels, the Gensini score ≥ 20 group and the Gensini score < 20 group were (149 ± 13)ng/L,(107 ± 13)ng/L,the different was significant between the groups (P < 0.05).②The plasma BNP levels in different groups of LVEF,100% patients in LVEF≤40% group were over 100 ng/L.③The plasma BNP levels in the group whose cardiovascular events didn't occurr in a year and the group whose cardiovascular events occurred were (89 ± 12) ng/L,(153 ± 13) ng/L,which was significant between groups (P < 0.05).Conclusions The plasma BNP levels can be a good parameter to predict the severity of coronary vessels atheroma.
