Abstract:Objective To investigate the risk factors of the lung function in children with capillary bronchitises and to detect the relationship between the lung function and disease conditions. Methods Totally 50 cases with capillary bronchitises were detected. We analyzed the tidal lung function in the acute phase and recovery phase for all cases.Meanwhile, some contributing factors such as the count of eosinophil cell, the level of total immunoglobulin E(IgE),the specific history of the patients and/or their family and some pathogens'antibody were assessed. Results In the patients with acute phase of bronchitises, the level of time to peak tidal expiratory flow (TPTEF),ratio of TPTEF to total expiratory time (TPTEF/TE),volume to peak expiratory flow (VPEF),ratio of VPEF to total expiratory volume (VPEF/VE) and the ratio of inspiratory time to expiratory time (Te/Ti) were significantly lower than those of the control group [TPTEF:(0.18 ± 0.16) s vs (0.36 ± 0.09) s,VPEF:(10 ± 5) ml vs (26 ±7)ml,TPTEF/TE:(16 ±6)% vs (33 ±4)%,VPEF/VE:(20 ±4)% vs (33 ±4)%,Ti/Te:(0.62 ±0.10) % vs (0.83 ± 0.08) %,P < 0.01].All the indexes became significantly better in recovery phase of diseases than those in acute phase (TPTEF:P < 0.01,VPEF:P < 0.01,TPTEF/TE:P < 0.01,VPEF/VE:P < 0.05,Ti/Te:P <0.01) but still lower than the control group (all P < 0.01).TPTEF/TE and VPEF/VE got significantly better than those in the acute phase [TPTEF/TE:(24 ± 5) % vs (16 ± 6) %,VPEF/VE:(26 ± 5) % vs (20 ± 4) %,P < 0.05] after 2 weeks. However, they were still lower than the control group [TPTEF/TE:(27 ± 6) % vs (33 ±4)% and VPEF/VE:(28 ±5)% vs (33 ±4)%].The eosinophil count and serum total IgE in acute phase had no significantly relation with TPTEF/TE and VPEF/VE (the value of r was 0.239,0.317,0.264,0.322,respectively and the value of P > 0.05).Conclusions The tidal lung function is a good monitoring and judgment index for capillary bronchitis. The lung function recovery speed may be used as an objective index evaluating the risk of developing asthma and give a basis of early intervention for the children with high-risk developing asthma.
