Abstract:Objective To study the effect of puerarin combined with valsartan on early diabetic nephropathy. Methods Sixty-eight patients with early diabetic nephropathy were randomly divided into treatment group(36 cases)and control group(32 cases). The two groups were treated with conventional treatment and valsartan, and the treatmen group were treated with puerarin additionally, for treatment periods of two weeks.Urinary albumin excretion rate (UAER),blood urea nitrogen(BUN),serum creatinine(Scr),fibrin degradation products(FDP),malondialdehyde(MDA),and superoxide dismutase(SOD)were checked before and after treatment. Results The two groups could significantly show the improvement of UAER,MDA and SOD [control group was (65 ± 11)μg/min vs (87 ± 15)μg/min,(7.4 ± 1.5)μg/L vs (9.6 ± 1.7)μg/L,(168 ± 26)U/L vs (111 ± 25)U/L; treatment group was (52 ±9)μg/min vs (85 ± 14)μg/min,(5.5 ±1.0)μg/L vs (10.0 ± 1.5)μg/L,(215 ±28)U/L vs (110±21)U/L,respectively,all P <0.01].The effect of treatment group was superior to control group (P < 0.05).The treatment group also presented with significant effect of TC,TG,LDL-C,HDL-C and FDP (P <0.05).Conclusion The puerarin combined with valsartan is effective in the treatment of early diabetic nephropathy, and can significantly show the improvement of UAER and oxidative stress, meanwhile,it can also delay the development of diabetic nephropathy.
