Clinical study on patients with idiopathic hypoparathyroidsm

Abstract:Objective To report the chnical manifestation,diagnosis and treatment of fifty-three patients with idiopathic hypoparathyroidism.Methods The clinical data of fifty-three patients with idiopathic hypoparathyroidism admitted in Peking Union Medical College Hospital from 1978 to 2006 were retrospectively analyzed.Results The characteristic of biochemical index included hypocalcemia and hyperphosphatemia.The parathyroid hormone level was lower than the normal range.Tetany,epilepsy and neuropsychiatrial symptoms were common clinical manifestation of idiopathic hypoparathyroidism.After being treated with calcium and vitamin D,the neuropsychiatrial symptoms caused by hypocalcemia disappeared.Conclusions Idiopathic hypoparathyroidism is a metabolic disorder of calcium and phosphorus caused by parathyroid hormone insufficiency.The clinical manifestation of this disease includes hypocalcemia,tetany,epilepsy and neuropsychiatrial symptoms.Treatment with long-term calcium and vitamin D can be effective.
