Analysis of drug utilization in pediatric outpatients

Abstract:Objective To investigate the drug utilization in pediatric outpatient; to analyze the drug risk and promote the rational use of drugs.Methods According to the regulation of the management of prescription,a total of 65 624 outpatient prescriptions from January 2010 to December 2010 were randomly sampled from our hospital for analysis.The utilization of information intelligent prompt system,extraction and verification of medicines in children and efficient investigation of children in dosage instructions in the package offered important background help.Results The prescription for children in outpatient building accounted for 11.3%.The average number of drugs prescribed was 2.36 ; the percentage of outpatients receiving over-the-counter drugs ( OTC ) were 45.5%.There were a total of 663 varieties of children's medicine.Among them,the proportion of injections was 4.8% and antimicrobial drugs was 37.1%.Traditional Chinese patent medicine was 33.5% and Traditional Chinese medicine ( TCM ) injection was 0.1%.The tagging rate of package inserts of children reached to 27.1%.Conclusion Drug utilization in pediatric outpatients is various and lack of security of information and reference dosage.
