Abstract:Objective To investigate the expression and clinical significance of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in meningiomas. Methods Seventy cases of meningioma tissue and twenty normal tissues were examined for iNOS expression and the relationship between clinical pathological features by immunohistochemical SABC method. Results iNOS-positive material was localized in the cytoplasm of meningioma cells.iNOS was negative expression in normal 20 patients meninges, and meningioma tissues in different levels of expression, positive rate of iNOS expression was 64.29% (45/70),there was a statistically significant difference (P <0.01).The expression of iNOS in the grade Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ meningmioma gradually increased with the rise of pathological grade and peritumoral brain edema grade of meningioma, and the difference of iNOS in every two groups was significant ( P < 0.05 ).iNOS expression was not related with the patients' age, sex, tumor location and the size ( P > 0.05 ).Conclusion The expression of iNOS in meningiomas is closely related to tumors' cell differentiation and angiogenesis, and it may be taken as an useful marker for predicting the biological behavior of meningioma.
