Abstract:Objective To investigate the positive detection rate and the application value of chest X-ray in psychiatric screening. Methods Chest X-ray of 22 683 cases were applied for psychiatric screening and were divided into seven groups according to the age interval by decade, the positive detection rate was calculated with statistical analysis using x2 test. Results Chest X-ray positive detection rate was 0.71% in psychiatric screening, the positive detection rate of various disease was significantly increased at the age groups above 40 years. There were significant statistical differences of the positive detection rate between the age groups 40-49 years and 30-39 years, age groups 50-59 years and 40-49 years, age groups <40 years and ≥40 years. Conclusions The positive detection rate of chest X-ray is low in psychiatric screening and the patients are irradiated by a large x-ray dosage.Chest X-ray should not be used as routine project in hospital and the chest radiography should be individualized according to the personal age, respiratory symptoms and previous medical history.
