Abstract:Objective To explore the clinicalpathological features, differential diagnosis and its association with Epstein-Barr virus of the gastric lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma (LELC). Methods A case with gastric LELC was examined with light microscopy and immunohistochemistry, including and related literatures were reviewed. Results There was a superficial ulcer in the gastric antrum. A large number of lymphocytes diffuse distributed in stroma. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells were positive for cytokeratin(CK)pan, CK7, carcino-embryonic antigen, and negative for Epstein-Barr virus; and the lymphocytes were positive for CD, and CD20. Conclusions The primary LELC is rare in gastric. This disease has no special clinical features. The histopathologic features of LELC show poorly differentiated or undifferentiated carcinomas with lymphoid stroma. Gastric LELC should be classified by criteria independent of other types of tumor. Although the differentiation of the tumor cells is poor, prognosis seems to be better than other types of gastric cancer.
