Phenytoin reverses the multidrug resistance in human glioblastoma cell line

Abstract：0bjective To investigate the reversal of chemotherapy resistance of glioblastoma cell line 8-MG-BA after incubated in different concentrations of phenytoin(PHT)in vitro.Methods After adding PHT on different concentrations,the reversal of chemotherapy resistance of carmustine and VM-26 on H4 and 8-MG-BA cell line was determined by thiazolyl blue tetrazolium bromide(MTr)assay.Verapamil was applied in a control group.Results With PHT 5mg/L or 10 mg/L,verapamil(VRP)5 mg/L,the fold of reversal of carmustine was 25.34,34.97,14.27 respectively,and that of VM-26 was 13.44,21.71,11.10 respectively.Conclusion Fold of reversal increases more with the dose of PHT that with VRP.
