Relation between Barrett esophagus and helicobacter pylori infection

Abstract:Objective To investigate the relation between Barrett esophagus(Barrett)and helicobacter pylori(Hp)infection.Methods One hundred and sixty eight patients were enrolled,including those affected by Barrett (n=86),gastreesophageal reflux disease(GERD n=51)and control group(n=31).Results The prevalence ofrate of Hp infection in Barrett was significantly higher than that in GERD control groups(X2=15.87.P<0.01;X2=10.94,P<0.01).The rate of Hp infection in the moderate and severe grade esophagitis was significantly higherthan that in the mild group(P<0.01).r11lle rate of Hp infection in the Barrett with intestinal metaplasia was lowerthan that in the Barrett group,but no significant difference was found.Conclusion Hp infection plays an important role in Barrett and its inflammation grades.
