Abstract:Objective To investigate the relation between clinical risk factors and intima-media thickness (IMT)in Beijing community women and to provide the measures of preventing and treating the community feminine crowd atherosclerosis. Methods Six hundred and seventeen healthy participants from the community women of Beijing were enrolled in the study. The IMT was measured by color doppler ultrasound. The correlation between IMT and risk factors were assessed. Six hundred and seventeen healthy participants were divided into three groups according to age;group Ⅰ had 337 cases (36 to 45 years) , group Ⅱ had 192 cases (46 to 55 years) and group Ⅲ had 88 cases (56 to 70 years). The difference of the incidence of plaque, plaque score and IMT were compared. Results The age, low-density lipoprotein, fasting glucose, body mass index and smoking were independent risk factors of IMT incrassation (β= 0.16, 0.09, 0.08, -0.03, 0.13, all P<0.05 ). The incidence of plaque, plaque score and IMT were significantly different among different age groups. Conclusions The IMT testing in communities is a simple and easy method to screen patients with arteriosclerosis. Individual intervention measures can be made according to the different stages of IMT and nature to prevent arteriosclerosis and to reduce the occurrence of sudden cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events.
