Abstract:Objective To investigate the drug resistance and the clinical distribution of group B streptococcus(GGBS). Methods One hundred and forty-five clinical cases of GBS identified with VITEK-32 were collected from January 2006 to December 2009. Drug resistance was detected by K-B method and variance of drug resistance were analyzed by WHONET 5.4. Results Fifty strains of GBS were isolated from the submission of hospitalized patients, and 20 strains (40.0%) were isolated from the maternity ward, 37 strains(74.0% ) were isolated from urogenital specimens, Ninety-five strains of GBS were isolated from the submission of outpatients, 38 strains (38.8%)were isolated from the obstetrics and gynecology clinic and 80 strains(84.2% ) were isolated from urogenital specimens. One hundred and five strains(72.4%) of GBS were mainly from specimens of urine and genital secretion and affected patients during the age of twenty-one to forty. Drug resistance rate of GBS to erythromycin, clindamycin, and levofloxacin was gradually increased during recent four years. Isolation of GBS was still sensitive to penicillin, ceftriaxone and vancomycin. Drug resistance rate of GBS to macrolide, lincosamide and stretogramin B (MLSB) was gradually increased. Conclusions Group B streptococcus infection is common in pregnant women. It is very important to do the screen test for GBS and to survey the drug resistance.
