Abstract:Objective To evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of paclitaxel and cisplatin chemoradiotherapy on local advanced esophageal cancer. Methods Totally 60 local advanced esophageal carcinoma patients were randomized into two groups. The first arm was radiotherapy only; The second arm was paclitaxel and platinol chemoradiotherapy. All patients were irradiated and the total radiation dose was 60 ~ 70 Gy in tumor. Results The overall responserates of radiotherapy arm and chemoradiotherapy arm was 73.34% and 88.66% respectively. There was a significant difference between the two arms ( P < 0.05 ). The 1year and 3year overall survivalrate (OS) was 66.7% , 25.0%, 79.2%, 58.3% respectively. The OS had a significant difference between all arms ( P =0.041 ).Conclusion Improved OS of locally advanced esophageal carcinoma can be achieved with paclitaxel and platinol chemoradiotherapy.
