Abstract:Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effect of conformal radiotherapy combined with concurrent hyperthermia on advanced, unresectable pancreatic cancer. Methods Thirty-four patients with advanced pancreatic carcinoma received conformal radiotherapy with 2Gy/fraction, five fraction/week, a total dose 50-70 Gy.Meanwhile hyperthermia was performed twice a week for six fractions with 60-90 minutes/fraction. Results Totally 82.4% of the patients who suffered from pain got relief and the clinical benefit response was 82.5%. The overall response rate ( both complete and part recovery) was 77.5%, and 1-year and 2-year survival rates were 32.5% and 20.0%. Conclusion The conformal radiotherapy combined with concurrent hyperthermia is an effective approach to improve life quality and prolong survival time for unresectable pancreatic carcinoma.
