Diagnosis and retroperitoneal laparoscopic surgical treatment of adrenal myelolipoma

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the diagnosis and the application of retroperitoneal laparoscopic surgery for adrenal myelolipoma Methods From January 2002 to January 2010,9 patients with a confirmed diagnosis of adrenal myelolipoma underwent retroperitoneal laparoscopic operation.The clinical characters,methods and treatment were analyzed. Results Operations were successfully performed in all cases,no severe complications were observed.Postoperative pathology confirmed the diagnosis of adrenal myelolipoma.The operative time ranged from 40 to 140(72 ±35)min and the operative bleeding ranged from 30 to 200(113 53)ml.The hospital length of stay was ranged from 4 to 7(6±1)day.Follow-up was available for up to 6 to 84(41 ±20)months in nine patients.No recurrent evidence had been found in these nine patients during follow-up. Conclusions Adrenal myelolipema can be diagnosed by physical examination,iconographic examination and pathology examination.It is safe and effective to perform retroperitoneal laparoscopic surgery for adrenal myelolipoma.
