Abstract:Objective To study the glucose metabolism in patients with stress-hyperglycemia 3 months after surgery. Methods Ninety-five patients without diabetes were brought into this investigate. A standardized oral glucose tolerance test was respectively performed at pre-surgery and 3 months after surgery. Random blood sugar was measured on first day morning after heart surgery. Patients were divided into two groups according to stress blood sugar, compared their glucose metabolic outcome at 3 months after surgery. Results Eighty-eight patients (92.6% ) completed the study. The group with stress-hyperglycemia had 39 patients, and the other group had 49 patients. IGT patients in the group with stress-hyperglycemia are more than those in the other group. Eleven patients (12.5%)had diabetes at 3 months after surgery. There were more diabetes at 3 months after surgery than before surgery (P =0.01), which mainly happened in the group of stress-hyperglycemia (P =0.003). Conclusion The stress-hyperglycemia might affect glucose metabolism of some patients at 3 months after surgery, causing impaired glucose regulation 3 months after surgery.
