Abstract:Objective To observe effects of ultrasound guided chest cavity intubation to cure infrapulmonary fluid in elderly patients. Methods The 120 patients with moderate or mild infrapulmonary fluid were divided into two groups during 2007 to 2009.60 patients in the treated group were treated with ultrasound guided thorax catheterization to drain pleural effusion;60 patients in the control group were treated with conventional pleural aspiration. Successful thoracentesis rates, thoracic cavity adhesions, drainage volume and complications of the two groups were compared. Results Puncture success rates for treatment group and control group were respectively 100% and 86.7%. Pleural effusion volume drained was ( 1200 ± 86) ml from treatment group and ( 800 ± 59 ) ml from the control group. Pleural adhesion occurred in 12 cases of treatment group and 21 cases of control group. Pneumothorax occurred in 3 cases (5%) of treatment group and 8 cases ( 13.33% ) of control group. Conclusion Ultrasound guided chest tube drainage has the advantages of high curative effect, easy puncture, complete drainage and few complications.
