Abstract:Objective To observe the correlation between expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3) in synovia of collagen induced arthritis rats(CIA) in different pe-riod. To explore the role of the two indexes in the pathology of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Methods The expres-sion of VEGF and MMP-3 at different periods in synovial membranes in CIA group and normal group were examined by immunohistochemical analyses. Correlation between them and histological scores, arthritis index (AI) was ob-served. Results VEGF, MMP-3 showed high expression in synovial membranes in different periods (P < 0.01). Level of expression of VEGF, MMP-3, and AI, the histological gradually increased accordingly with the process of the invasion time of the CIA. The level of expression of VEGF, MMP-3 had the positive correlation with AI and the histological scores(P<0.05). VEGF and MMP-3 had a positive correlation(P<0.01) too. Conclusions VEGF and MMP-3 are related closely with the course of CIA and therefore may be the important factors in formation of pan-nus and corrosion of bone and cartilage in RA.
